After an initially disastrous reception (it seems that, initially, not one of the 250 copies Fitzgerald had printed were sold, and ended up in a penny box outside bookseller and sometime-publisher Bernard Quaritch in Leicester Square) a copy was eventually passed by an acquaintance to Romantic artist and poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Translated (or, as Fitzgerald put it, ‘transmogrified’) from the quatrains of 11 th century Persian poet, philosopher and mathematician Omar Khayyam by Edward Fitzgerald and first published in 1859 in pamphlet form, it has rarely been out of print since and has appeared in over 650 different editions. Perhaps one of the best-known, best-loved and most-illustrated poems in the English language, The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is a unique publishing phenomenon. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Though I started my career traditionally published, publishing four novels with Covenant Communications, I’ve since shifted to indie publishing, which just means I handle all the ins and outs of getting my books published myself. Time FLIES when your kids turn into teenagers, friends. We currently have three kids in college, which is still crazy to me every time I think about it, and three kids left at home. But also? I love hanging out at home with a great movie or a favorite book and eating delicious food that, when I’m lucky, I didn’t have to prepare myself. I love to spend time outdoors with my husband, Josh, our kids, and a growing assortment of pets. It’s a little hotter here in the lowcountry, but I’m embracing the heat and all that comes with it. AFTER A RECENT MOVE to Charleston, SC I’m learning to love the beach as much as I love the North Carolina mountains where I grew up. ![]() |
